Friends chillin at grouse
super fun day up grouse (as always) hitting up our own features :D
Every April, the lengthening days triggers something in the brains of male Sharp-tailed Grouse causing them to start dancing...They return to their leks—a term for the dancing grounds of grouse species. With hormones raging, they do their best and most dramatic display for the females lurking around the edges, pretending not to watch. Males fight other males in dramatic flurries, but more often than not, confrontation ends in "Mexican standoffs," birds just facing off and staring at one another until one splits. I'm in the blind 45 minutes before sunrise, and the grouse really rev up about 15 minutes before the sun peaks above the hayfield horizon. At one point, a Northern Harrier swoops in for a look...She's not interested in grouse for a meal...too big for her rodent-sized appetite. Cont...
Quick video on some grouse I encountered this winter. This was in beginning of March. I like how the male dances around and how they can be good at hiding in trees. Roadsides are great places to observe these birds as they like to use the small rocks in the gravel for their digestive system.
This was a truly shocking find and looks like it may have been stupidly dumped in a shallow mud pit. This looks to have dried out and the grass has started to re-grow all around where there is broken glass, mainly beer and wine bottles. All around this area is bone dry grass and heather, with livestock grazing too. This was a disaster waiting to happen and all on a water catchment area. Lord knows how many tons of lead-shot have covered this area over say a century, (for talking's sake) whilst game bird shooting has always gone on. I'm told the right people were informed of this and that the fire hazard has been cleared up. I can only hope this information is correct.

Old Harrovian hedge fund manager and shooting enthusiast Crispin Odey (inset) attacked the charity's call to introduce the licensing of grouse moors. The RSPB believe that introducing the measure would prevent gamekeepers from killing hen harriers. But colourful Mr Odey, 55, who is said to be worth £1.1billion, said the charity was fuelling resentment against wealthy grouse moor owners and exploiting the plight of the hen harrier to help raise funds to pay its 2,000 staff. Mothership song at Jenn's birthday party
Here is a quick edit from a few nights ago up at grouse parks.
You wanna feel it go
Won't you color me a picture of your shallow needs together you and me will
find a pill to help stop you bleed all this time you thought you'd never
live successfully just turn right back around and tell yourself the delivery
You wanna feel it go
No I'm not awake
